Faculty Position in Experimental High Energy Physics Department of

Physics and Astronomy University of Pennsylvania.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a faculty position in experimental particle physics beginning in July 2008. We anticipate making the appointment at the assistant professor level but an appointment with tenure would be possible for an exceptionally well qualified candidate.

The Penn experimental particle physics group is currently pursuing exciting new experiments in a number of areas. We have a large involvement at the LHC, where we have made significant contributions over the past decade to the design, construction, and commissioning of the ATLAS detector. We expect to establish new experimental efforts in direct searches for dark matter and/or detection of neutrinoless double beta decay. We have significant efforts, in collaboration with the astrophysics group at Penn, in the Dark Energy Survey, the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, and the SuperNova Acceleration Probe. We seek candidates with a strong interest in playing a principal role in one of these areas. We are especially interested in candidates who are focused on physics at the LHC.

Candidates must also show potential to develop into an outstanding teacher at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Recently, the Penn experimental particle physics group has been very active in the CDF experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron, the BaBar experiment at SLAC, and the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory.

Applicants should send a Curriculum Vitae including a summary of research accomplishments, a list of publications, and a statement of future research interests. Applicants for the level of assistant professor should also provide the names and addresses of four people that have agreed to serve as references. Please send applications to:

Prof. T. C. Lubensky, Chair, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Pennsylvania, 209 South 33rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104-6396.

In addition, a short on-line profile at

https://fusion.sas.upenn.edu/faculty/pos/physics/experimental must be completed by all applicants.

We will begin reviewing applications on 15 November 2007, and the Department will accept applications until the position is filled.

The University of Pennsylvania is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
