Postdoc opening – Stony Brook University
We seek a Postdoc or
Research Scientist immediately with The Research Foundation of the State
University of New York at Stony Brook, to work in part (roughly half
time) on the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Collider and the other part
on particle flow algorithms (PFA) for the International Linear Collider.
The PFA seeks to identify particle clusters in the calorimeter that
derive from charged particles and subtract their energy from those of
photons and neutral hadrons, with a goal of achieving 3-4% energy
resolution for jets above 50 GeV. The PFA work is critical input for
the letters of intent for ILC detectors due in about one year. At D0,
Stony Brook is presently involved in Higgs boson searches, measurement
of the W boson mass and properties of b-quark hadrons. The position
could continue for a maximum of three years, but the detailed allocation
of time between D0 and ILC can be re-negotiated after the first year.
The successful candidate would be based at Fermilab. Salary will be
commensurate with experience. The Research Foundation of SUNY is an
Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer.
Please submit CV to Paul Grannis (pgrannis@sunysb.edu;
telephone 631 632 8088) and arrange for three letters of recommendation
to be sent (electronic submissions preferred). This position will be
open until a suitable candidate is hired.
