Faculty Position in Particle/Astroparticle Physics Experiment

The Physics Department of the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position to start September 1, 2008. Applications are sought in both accelerator-based and non accelerator-based experiment. On the accelerator-based side, we are looking to expand our effort on ATLAS, where we are leading efforts in the area of Muon Spectrometer software and performance.

On the non accelerator-based side, we are looking to enhance or complement present efforts, which include involvement in the fields of neutrino, gravitational wave and gamma ray physics (EXO, LIGO, and VERITAS). Further information can be found at http://people.umass.edu/eppex. The Department seeks an individual with outstanding research and a strong commitment to teaching.

Appointment is expected to be at the Assistant Professor level.

[Outstanding Associate or Full Professors may consider applying for the separately advertised endowed Gluckstern Professorship, see http://www.physics.umass.edu.]

Applicants should submit a letter of application, a CV, and a research statement, as well as arranging to have three letters of reference sent to either particlesearch@physics.umass.edu or Particle Faculty Search, Physics Department, 710 N. Pleasant St., University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA 01003. Priority deadline is December 7, 2007; however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The position will be filled contingent upon funding. The University of Massachusetts is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer, and is aggressive in its efforts to hire candidates who will enhance the diversity and gender balance of the faculty in the sciences.

We strongly encourage women and members of minority groups to apply.
