Open position for a professor at the Department of Physics of the ULB (Free University of Brussels) starting in October 2008.

Description

The Faculty of Sciences of the Free University of Brussels (ULB) has an opening for a full-time tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor (Chargé de Cours) in experimental elementary particle physics, to start on October 1st, 2008.

In the coming years, the activities of the Service of Experimental Elementary Particle Physics will be centred on participation in the CMS experiment at the LHC and in the IceCube experiment, as well as on a R&D program to prepare experiments at future colliders.

The Candidates, holder of a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in experimental elementary particle physics since at least 4 years with an outstanding level of activities, should demonstrate their skills for teaching at university. Evaluation will be based on their ability to reinforce one of the teams of the Laboratory. Preference will be given to candidates aiming to perform their research in the field of astroparticle physics.

Teaching duties will be progressively given to the successful candidate in order to reach a teaching volume similar to that of the other full time Professors of the Faculty of Sciences. Knowledge of French is not required in the first instance but the Candidate must commit himself to give lectures in that language after a period of two years.

Except in special circumstances (see the official vacancy text for details), the Candidate will be first hired on a temporary basis of three academic years. At the end of this probationary period, his position will be transformed into a permanent position (undetermined period contract) by a decision of the University Council.

Applicants are invited to submit their Curriculum Vitae following a template which can be obtained from the Secretariat of the Science Faculty or downloaded from the Website:
