Geant4 Tutorial 2017 @ Massachusetts Institute of Technology

This is a four day hands-on tutorial course based on Geant4 version 10.3-patch02 hosted by Laboratory for Nuclear Security and Policy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It will cover all the application domains including high energy and nuclear physics, astrophysics and space engineering, medical applications and newly arising material science.

The lectures will cover all aspects of the toolkit of Geant4 version 10.3-patch02 from basic installation through advanced topics including multithreading, and will be interspersed with hands-on sessions that build a progressively more complex application extensible to real use.

The course should be of interest both to complete novices and to those who already have some basic familiarity with Geant4. Participants are expected to have a reasonable knowledge of C++ and Linux OS, in addition to basic radiation physics.


The tutorial starts in the morning of November 6th (Monday) and runs through the afternoon of November 9th  (Thursday). The detailed agenda is here. Tutorial slides and hands-on instructions will be linked to the agenda by the start of the tutorial.

Laptop Required

Participant should bring a laptop with a wireless internet connection. Tutorial organizers will not offer any computers for tutorial participants.

We will use Geant4 virtual machine. The link to the virtual machine image will be sent to the tutorial participants in advance. To run this machine, you need a virtualization software. The machine has been tested with VMware (VMware Workstation Player for Windows or VMware Fusion for Mac) and VirtualBox.


The capacity is limited to 50 on a first-come-first-served basis.
