Responsibilities

SLAC Facilities Engineering and Construction group is seeking an electrical engineering manager that will report to the Facilities Engineering, Construction & Project Management group leader. The Electrical Engineering Manager serves as the chief electrical engineer for SLAC and oversees all of the facilities¿ electrical engineering projects. Responsible for supervising approximately 6 SLAC employees and consultants providing facilities electrical engineering services site wide; Interfaces with customers, engineers, subcontractors, contract administrators, safety specialists, DOE and other inspectors; Reads drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine compliance with standards, maintainability, and constructability; Provides accurate cost estimates and uses budget tracking tools; Applies knowledge of electrical codes, and applicable building codes and practices to safely and successfully manage projects for SLAC; Responsible for establishing guidance and reviewing and approving various project documents including drawings, specifications, estimates, etc; Performs occasional field inspections to ensure compliance with technical, safety, environmental and OSHA requirements.

Required Skills

Required: BS degree in electrical engineering and PE certification. Extensive experience with facilities engineering and project management with an electrical emphasis. Experience in project management and engineering in both commercial and industrial projects encompassing familiarity with all conventional engineering disciplines in addition to the emphasis on electrical, such a civil, structural, mechanical, HVAC, etc. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direction to all phases of a project and use problem solving skills in a variety of situations. Must possess specific knowledge of electrical codes and practices and general knowledge of building, plumbing, mechanical, and accessibility along with OSHA construction safety regulations. Must have strong construction safety knowledge and demonstrate a strong commitment to construction safety. Demonstrated ability to work with designers and engineers regarding technical issues, estimates, schedules and constructability issues. Supervisory experience. Proficient in the use of computers and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook and MS Project. Must be able to effectively manage and interact with a diverse professional staff, both independently and as a team member. Must have cost estimating experience. Must possess a valid California Driver¿s license for driving on SLAC site. Desired: Working with government agencies such as the Department of Energy. Experience with design and constructability reviews, schedule compliance, cost control and commissioning. Experience managing projects with government funding, especially Department of Energy.
