Percent Time:100%
Duration:Continuing
Open To:All

Responsibilities

The Particle Physics and Astro Physics Division at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is looking for an Electronics Engineer to work on the development of electronics for the LHC ATLAS detector upgrade, DOE/NASA Joint-Dark Energy Space Mission satellite, and several other SLAC high-energy physics and astro physics experiments. In addition to customer low-noise analog and digital front-end electronics near the detectors, there are also data acquisition boards with processors in VME, cPCI, as well as on custom ATCA boards. The successful candidate will develop analog electronics circuits, digital circuits with FPGA's using VHDL/Verilog firmware, and higher level C-code to control and readout the electronics. Part of the job is the functionality and performance testing of the boards together with the sensors.

Required Skills

The candidate must possess an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in electrical engineering. At least several years of experience in board-level analog and digital circuit design and testing, schematic entry and simulation, fluent in VHDL or Verilog coding and simulation. Good analog circuit design expertise. Experience debugging/testing of prototype boards. Experience designing electronics systems and seeing modules and systems through from concept to testing. Experience with Xilinx/Altera/Actel FPGA's, embedded processors, Synplicity, Viewlogic, Modelsim, Synopsys, and VxWorks peak-and-poke a plus. C, C++, Qt, and scripting language experience desired. Ability to work with minimal supervision and ability to carry out responsibilities proactively. Analytical thinking a must. Excellent communications skills and ability to work well in a research and development team are required.

Please note: Hires at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory are subject to Department of Energy approval, and are required to complete Environmental Safety & Health training.

Beginning September 8, 2009, SLAC is required to confirm all new employees through the E-Verify Program.
