Responsibilities
(2 Positions Available) SLAC Facilities Engineering and Construction group is seeking a Field Construction Manager with a specialization in electrical installations that will report to the Facilities Construction Manager (CM) to manage various facilities construction and installation projects. The Field Construction Manager is responsible for technical compliance and safety oversight of complex high risk construction projects. Provides daily inspection reports and maintains up-to-date files of all construction documents including Job Safety Analyses (JSA), Work Planning and Control (WP&C) documentation, permits, etc. Keeps Construction Manager apprised of project¿s progress, status, technical, quality, and schedule. Notifies CM of all Code required modifications or clarifications. Documents and reports all sub-contractor or sub-tier sub-contractor deficiencies to CM. Witnesses and maintains up-to-date files of all special inspections and submits copies of same to CM and Environmental, Safety and Health Department (ES&H). Submits copies of all construction inspection reports as required by SLAC Building inspection Office (BIO). Meets daily with subcontractor¿s & sub-tier contractor¿s representatives, and their workers to review current JSA specific to the scope of work being performed. Ensures that potential hazards are identified evaluated, and mitigating controls are implemented. Ensures that work is authorized and released in accordance with approved Work Planning & Control processes prior to commencing work activity. Attends and participates in weekly project meetings, reporting on current and projected coordination, schedule or quality issues. This position has the possibility of converting to a regular ongoing position.
Required Skills
Extensive field experience in facilities construction and inspection with an emphasis on electrical. Knowledge of NEC including NFPA 70E applicable to medium voltage power installations. Ability to read and comprehend construction documents, including specifications and contract drawings. Documented experience and working knowledge of building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and accessibility codes including the ability to locate information in the codes, provide professional interpretation and properly apply it to projects and record the inspection results. Documented experience and working knowledge of testing, special inspection, permitting, RFI, submittal, change order, and scheduling policies and procedures associated with construction contracts. Established excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present daily inspection reports and monthly project summary reports. Demonstrated competency in computer operation including Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Project Schedule, and Outlook
Desired: Professional degree in Construction Management or related field such as Electrical Engineering with extensive experience. OSHA training certificates in Construction Safety, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Excavation Safety, and Respiratory Protection.
