Responsibilities

(3 positions available) The Area Manager manages an assigned area of SLAC's accelerator complex, including non-radiation safety. The Area Manager is responsible for coordinating and releasing the day to day maintenance and repairs that may be necessary, as well as monitoring the safety and efficiency of the work. In this function s/he often releases authorized work to proceed. These coordination tasks typically require follow up with different groups such as operations, accelerator physicists, engineering and maintenance groups. S/he assists in establishing procedures, handling of ES&H issues, and resolving problems. The Area Manager works together with other groups to monitor and improve system reliability and uptime. In preparation for down times these duties expand to cover the planning, scheduling, coordination and release of all repair, maintenance and install upgrades in the assigned area. The Area Manager is responsible for safety in the area(s) of responsibility as part of line management. The Area Manager reports to the area physicist of the assigned area(s).

Required Skills

B.S. or B.E. degree in physics, engineering or a related technical field or combination of education, training and experience. Several years experience in maintenance, operation or construction of large accelerator systems or similar installations. Ability to master details of a wide spectrum of technical systems. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and coordinate work among several technical groups. Familiarity with SLAC beam lines is desired.
